Crocheted reusable grocery bag named to honor the indigenous ancestors who respected this land before the Europeans arrived. Bulbancha, or Place of Many Tongues, is the name the people indigenous to this land called the area before colonization. The bags are a modern crochet pattern that I made using plarn (plastic yarn). I made the plarn from recycled grocery bags.

Description

I made grocery bags out of grocery bags! These are crocheted reusable grocery bags in the style of French Market bags, but named for the original name of New Orleans before colonization — Bulbancha.

These are all handmade with handmade plarn, so they are all unique. I have six bags available. Each bag has a handmade charm so you can clip on your keys. The banana and black cat are both shrinky dinks I drew and made with to go containers. The evil eyes and the snowball are champagne corks. The tassel fell off a cherished journal, so I’m recycling it into a charm.

How I made them

Local pick up or drop off available from the French Quarter or Central Business District.
